John Mendez, general foreman for JE Merit Constructors, Inc., and his rigging crew, lift one of two Silos. The tail crane is a 45 ton Grove Rough Terrain, and the main lift crane is a 4000w Manitowac. Two Model SRS 12 JEM LATCH®s are being used with a JE Merit spreader beam. Each of the two JEM LATCH®s are attached to the spreader beam via shackle. An endless loop fiber sling is attached to the anchor shackle on the JEM LATCH® and the loop is feed through a shackle attached to the vessel lifting lug and then into the load zone and on to the load pin of the JEM LATCH®. When the load is lifted, set, and secured, the workman can signal to slack the hoist line, then with a pull of the release cord, the sling loop is freed from the load zone of the JEM LATCH®. Same procedure for the second                JEM LATCH® and the hoist line is ready to haul away all rigging. No one is needed at the top of the vessel to cut loose & retrieve the rigging.
